Nima Rostami Alkhorshid:
What is your take on the way that Donald Trump is dealing with somehow, we can say, Republicans together with Netanyahu?
Do you feel that [a new security architecture in the Middle East] would be acceptable with the foreign policy of the United States?
In your opinion, why did China and Russia in the first place try to make a deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia?
Larry C. Johnson:
Well, I don't know if you saw the report from the Middle East Spectator this morning. It came out, I guess it was late yesterday, but that Trump ordered the Pentagon to halt coordination for joint American-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Actually, Axis reported that the Arab states, we're talking about Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and UAE, they have asked Donald Trump not to go to war with Iran because that would bring a lot of problems for their countries.
For China, the oil out of the Persian Gulf is important. For Russia, the importance of the Middle East is more strategic, noting Saudi Arabia's role in having fomented a lot of radical Sunni terrorism, which has been a direct threat to Russia.
